What's inside an Endeavor board.
An Endeavor snowboard is a wood core of poplar or poplar and paulownia, wrapped in fibreglass, with carbon on most models, steel edges, urethane sidewalls and a polyethylene base. Two things set it apart. Our Pro boards are topped with Phonon, the world's best snowboard topsheet, exclusive to Endeavor. And every board we make is built with SmoothRide sidewalls, the award-winning construction that won Gold at the ISPO Award 2014.
We name the supplier behind each material and link to their published data, so you can check what we tell you.
Designed in North Vancouver
How a board is built.
A snowboard is a sandwich. From the snow up, every Endeavor board has the same order of layers. What changes from board to board is the material in each layer. Our boards are pressed at Maosen Sport Goods in Ningbo, China.
- Base: sintered or extruded polyethylene, the part that slides on snow.
- Bottom fibreglass: biaxial or triaxial.
- Core: poplar, or poplar and paulownia, with carbon on most models.
- Top fibreglass: biaxial or triaxial. On the Pro boards, Phonon, with carbon stringers woven in, is the top fibreglass and the topsheet in one.
- Topsheet: digitally printed PU with a UV-stable matte or gloss lacquer, or Phonon on the Pro boards, with no plastic layer at all.
- Around the edge: steel edges and award-winning SmoothRide 95A urethane sidewalls.
Sintered vs extruded bases.
A sintered base is made by pressing polyethylene powder under heat into a block and skiving it into sheets. An extruded base is melted and pushed through a die. Sintering is the only way to process the highest molecular weight polyethylene, which is why sintered bases wear better. All but two of our boards ride a sintered base.
Isosport explains why: ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has such a thick melt that it "cannot be processed by extrusion", so it is "compressed in a sintering press using heat and pressure" and the block is skived to thickness.
What base numbers mean. The number in a base name is the supplier's product code, not a speed rating. In Isosport's code table, a sintered base coded 75 is the 9 million molecular weight class and 72 is the 5 million class. P-Tex 3000 and ISO Speed 7500 sit in the same class, so we don't call either one the better base. A higher number from one maker says nothing about a base from another.
Every Endeavor base is die-cut, belt-sanded and hot-waxed at the factory, so it rides right out of the bag.
| Base | Maker | Process | Molecular weight | Boards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ISO Speed 7500 | Isosport, Eisenstadt, Austria | Sintered UHMW-PE | 9.2 million g/mol | Apollo, Scout, Maverick, B.O.D., B.O.D. Women's, Archetype Pro, B.O.D. Pro, Trooper Pro, Free Ranger Pro, Scout Pro Legacy |
| P-Tex 3000 | CPS, sintered in Vreden, Germany | Sintered UHMW-PE | 9.2 million g/mol | Ranger, Rover, Live, Live Women's, Pioneer, Pioneer Women's |
| P-Tex 900 | CPS, Germany | Extruded HDPE | 215,000 g/mol | Sentinel, Ranger Women's |
Molecular weights are the suppliers' published guide values.
Phonon. The world's best snowboard topsheet.
Exclusive to Endeavor. Phonon replaces the plastic topsheet on our Pro boards with a cured, pre-tensioned fibreglass laminate with carbon stringers woven in, made by Armtex in Magog, Quebec, on a continuous high-temperature, high-pressure press, where the fibres are impregnated with epoxy, rolled and cured in one pass. There is no plastic layer on top. With its woven-in carbon stringers, it gives the Pros their pop and torsional stiffness for less weight.
Phonon is our name for it, and you will only find it on an Endeavor board. Armtex was founded in 1979 and makes laminates "for reinforcement in skis, snowboards, hockey sticks, and skateboards". Weight for weight, Armtex says, composites are "as strong if not stronger than aluminum and steel… but far lighter."

Phonon, Legacy: Scout Pro Legacy
Biaxial vs triaxial fibreglass.
Biaxial fibreglass runs its fibres in two directions and gives a softer, more forgiving twist. Triaxial adds a third direction, which stiffens the board against twisting for more edge hold at speed. Our freestyle and entry boards use biax. Our freeride, all-mountain and Pro boards use triax.
Biaxial: Ranger · Ranger Women's · Sentinel · Rover · Live · Live Women's
Triaxial: Apollo · Scout · Maverick · Pioneer · Pioneer Women's · B.O.D. · B.O.D. Women's
Pro boards: triaxial bottom, Phonon top.
Poplar and paulownia wood cores.
Every Endeavor core is wood. Poplar is the strong, consistent base. Blending in paulownia, a very light wood, makes the core lighter and quicker to respond. Our Legacy boards add birch reinforcement through the core.

Carbon stringers, beams and Inertia Rods.
Carbon is stiffer and lighter than fibreglass, so a little of it in the right place adds pop without adding weight. Where it goes, and in what shape, sets how a board flexes and snaps back.
| Layout | What it is | Boards |
|---|---|---|
| Inertia Carbon Rods | Round rods made the way carbon fishing rods are, with a varying diameter, so they flex and rebound in any direction. | Apollo, Scout, Maverick |
| Carbon stringers | Thin strips along the length, for snap tip to tail. On the Pro boards they are woven into the Phonon glass. | Pioneer, Pioneer Women's, B.O.D. Women's, Archetype Pro, B.O.D. Pro, Trooper Pro, Free Ranger Pro |
| Carbon beams | Wider bands in set positions, for pop and to keep the camber lively. | Live, Live Women's |
| Carbon diamond weave | A woven carbon lattice through the fibreglass. | B.O.D. |
Each board's page shows its carbon in red on the outline under Specifications.
SmoothRide sidewalls. ISPO Award Gold Winner.
Award-winning, and on every board we make. SmoothRide is a 95A urethane sidewall that runs as one seamless piece around the whole board, in place of the multi-part plastic sidewall found in most snowboards. We developed it in our Vancouver lab as Seamless Sidewall Technology, and it won Gold at the ISPO Award 2014 in the Action segment, Material & Construction.
The ISPO jury's statement: "Unlike many technological advances, Endeavor's seamless sidewall technology remains relatively well hidden from sight. But, just because you can't see it doesn't make it any less radical or game changing. This advanced construction technique replaces the standard multi part sidewall with a seamless sidewall along the whole outside edge of the board; this not only increases durability but also helps to create a better riding snowboard." (Jeremy Sladen, ISPO Award jury.)
Urethane absorbs more vibration than the hard ABS used in many sidewalls, so the board stays quieter on rough, hard snow. ISPO's citation adds that it increases impact resistance compared with traditional plastic sidewalls. 95A is a Shore A hardness: firm enough to protect the core, soft enough to damp. We have refined the process since 2014, as Smoothwall in 2016 and now SmoothRide.

Rockwell 48 steel edges.
Our edges are steel hardened to 48 on the Rockwell C scale (48 HRC), the standard hardness for snowboard edges. Rubber strips run along the edges of every board to cut vibration and chatter.
Rockwell C is measured by pressing a diamond cone into the steel under a 150 kgf load. The shallower it goes, the harder the steel (ISO 6508).
Camber profiles.
| Profile | What it does | Boards |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional Camber | A positive arch tip to tail. Stores energy for a lively, precise ride on any snow. | Live, Live Women's |
| Multi Camber | Camber between the feet, early rise at tip and tail. Forgiving and less likely to catch an edge. | Ranger, Ranger Women's, Sentinel, Rover, Pioneer, Pioneer Women's |
| 3D Camber | Camber with a spoon-shaped nose and tail that lifts the contact points. Fewer hang-ups in soft snow, full grip on hardpack. | Apollo, B.O.D., B.O.D. Women's, B.O.D. Pro |
| Hover Camber | Camber from the front foot back, with a long early rise to the nose. The nose floats and the tail sinks, so you surf powder. | Scout, Maverick, Archetype Pro, Trooper Pro, Free Ranger Pro, Scout Pro Legacy |
Inserts and The Channel.
Every Endeavor board for Winter 26/27 mounts with traditional inserts, which give a solid connection between rider and board and take any binding. Our Legacy boards use The Channel, a slot that lets you slide your bindings to any stance and lock them down. It is compatible with all major binding brands.
Inserts: Apollo · Scout · Maverick · B.O.D. · B.O.D. Women's · Archetype Pro · B.O.D. Pro · Trooper Pro · Free Ranger Pro · Ranger · Ranger Women's · Rover · Sentinel · Live · Live Women's · Pioneer · Pioneer Women's
The Channel: Scout Pro Legacy
Directional, twin and wide.
| Shape | What it is | Boards |
|---|---|---|
| Directional | A raised nose and a flatter tail, with a directional shape and flex. A longer nose than tail for float and stability in powder and at speed. | Apollo, Scout, Maverick, Archetype Pro, B.O.D. Pro, Trooper Pro, Free Ranger Pro, Scout Pro Legacy |
| Directional Twin | A classic shape you can ride regular or switch, with a slightly longer nose than tail. Balanced across all terrain. | Live, Live Women's |
| True Twin | Identical end to end. Cut it in half at the waist and you could not tell the halves apart. Rides the same both ways, from groomers to park. | B.O.D., B.O.D. Women's, B.O.D. Pro |
| Wide | Wider sizes for bigger feet, so you can ride the board without heel or toe drag. | Ranger, Sentinel, Pioneer, Live, Apollo, Maverick, B.O.D., B.O.D. Pro, Archetype Pro |
Each board's page lists its shape and every size, wide sizes included.

FAQ.
Is a sintered base faster than an extruded one?
A sintered base is made from much higher molecular weight polyethylene (9.2 million g/mol on our sintered bases, against 215,000 on our extruded P-Tex 900), which gives it better wear resistance. Burton's own guide notes that the popular idea that sintered bases are faster because their pores hold wax isn't backed by real evidence. Molecular weight is the real difference.
How much wax does a snowboard base absorb?
Very little, and the figures can't be compared across brands. Each base maker tests wax uptake its own way and at its own temperature, so a number from one supplier says nothing about another's. That's why we don't print wax figures.
Do base numbers like 4000 or 7500 mean anything?
They are product codes. In Isosport's code, 75 marks a 9 million molecular weight sintered base. A higher number is not a faster base, and numbers from different makers can't be compared.
What is P-Tex?
P-Tex is CPS's name for its polyethylene running bases, made in Germany. The family includes sintered UHMW-PE (P-Tex 3000) and extruded HDPE (P-Tex 900).
Why are some bases black?
Black bases carry carbon. CPS says its black P-Tex 3000 does not grey along the steel edges the way other bases do.
What does Rockwell 48 mean on a snowboard edge?
It is the steel's hardness on the Rockwell C scale, 48 HRC. It is the standard hardness for snowboard edges, so it isn't a selling point. We list it so you know what you're riding.
Urethane or ABS sidewalls?
Urethane absorbs more vibration than ABS, so the board is quieter on hard, rough snow. ABS is harder. Every Endeavor board uses SmoothRide, a 95A urethane sidewall run as one seamless piece around the board, which won Gold at the ISPO Award 2014.
What is Phonon?
Phonon is the world's best snowboard topsheet, and it is exclusive to Endeavor. It is a cured, pre-tensioned fibreglass laminate with carbon stringers woven in, made by Armtex in Magog, Quebec, that replaces the plastic topsheet on our Pro boards.
Biaxial or triaxial fibreglass?
Triaxial adds a third fibre direction and holds an edge better at speed. Biaxial twists more easily, which suits park and learning.
Where are Endeavor snowboards made?
Our boards are pressed at Maosen Sport Goods in Ningbo, China, from materials we name on this page: bases from Isosport (Austria) and CPS (Germany), and the Phonon laminate from Armtex in Magog, Quebec. We design them in North Vancouver.
Does The Channel work with my bindings?
Yes. The Channel is compatible with all major binding brands. It is on our Legacy boards. Every Winter 26/27 board uses standard inserts, which take any binding.
Which camber should I ride?
Multi Camber to learn and for park, Traditional for precision, 3D for all-mountain, Hover for powder. Each board's page lists its profile.
Has Endeavor won any awards for its snowboards?
Yes. Endeavor's Seamless Sidewall Technology won Gold at the ISPO Award 2014, in the Action segment for Material & Construction. It replaced the multi-part plastic sidewall with one seamless urethane sidewall around the whole board. It lives on today as SmoothRide, on every board we make.
Which Endeavor snowboards have a Phonon topsheet?
The Archetype Pro, B.O.D. Pro, Trooper Pro and Free Ranger Pro, plus the Scout Pro Legacy. Phonon is exclusive to Endeavor.
